三島由紀夫氏の死から 40数年を経て… ｢つれづれ樹｣

　三島由紀夫氏は「切腹自害」を果たそうとしたが、
　切っ先は浅く　介添えの“だんしゅ”が　直接の死因とされた。

　作家・三島由紀夫（１９２５～７０）が１６歳のときに初めて筆名で書いたデビュー作「花ざかりの森」の自筆とみられる原稿が、熊本市内で見つかった。原稿用紙にいったん本名の「平岡公威（きみたけ）」と書いた後、２本の線で消して筆名に書き直したことが確認できる。三島文学に詳しい近畿大の佐藤秀明教授（日本近代文学）は「文筆家としての『三島由紀夫』が誕生したと言える貴重な原稿だ」と話す。

　作家・三島由紀夫としてのデビュー作「花ざかりの森」の原稿が見つかった。当初、三島は本名での発表を望んでいたとされ、原稿用紙にいったん本名を書いた後、筆名に改めていた。専門家は三島研究における貴重な資料とみている。

　所有していたのは熊本市出身の国文学者、蓮田善明（１９０４～４５）の長男、晶一氏。「花ざかりの森」は三島が学習院中等科に通っていた４１年、蓮田や熊本県出身の同校教師、清水文雄らが発行する雑誌「文芸文化」に掲載され、当時１６歳の三島の才能が世に知られるきっかけとなった。

　三島を研究する作家の西法太郎氏が６０年代の雑誌の記述などから今年、蓮田家にあるとみて接触し、確認した。今年８月に晶一氏が亡くなり、１０月に熊本県立図書館に寄贈された。

　原稿は５６枚。４部構成のうち最後の１部が欠落している。冒頭、三島の本名である「平岡公威（きみたけ）」が２本の線で消され、筆名に書き直されている。

　筆跡を見た佐藤秀明・近畿大教授は「１０代の頃の本人の文字だ。蓮田家にあったのなら原稿の真贋（しんがん）を疑う余地もない」と話す。三島は本名での発表を望んだが、学生だったことから清水らが筆名を勧めたとされる。今回の発見でこうした経緯が裏付けられた。「花ざかりの森」の異稿を所蔵する三島由紀夫文学館（山梨県山中湖村）の松本徹館長は「三島のペンネームが生まれた臨場感が伝わる」と話した。

　寄贈を受けた熊本県立図書館は、一般公開に向けて詳しい調査を進めている。（岩崎生之助）
