　偏西風の流れが“蛇行”
　北日本（北海道、東北）を中心とした高温の秋から一転、暦どおりの厳しい寒さが続く。
気象庁によると、偏西風の流れが蛇行し　列島上空で南寄りになったため、大陸から寒気が南下しやすかったのが一因という。

　この冬は　気象庁の長期予報で“暖冬傾向”とされてた。
　何のことはない撤回され、寒い冬が予報される。
　“京”のようなｽｰﾊﾟｰｺﾝﾋﾟｭｰﾀｰ使っても　この実状
　精細な情報を得ても　解析する人間のレベルで　宝の持ち腐れ！

　名古屋大学のチームは今年6月、屋久杉の年輪を測定した結果から、西暦774年に宇宙線が急増したと発表した。そしてこのほど、もし原因が太陽フレアだとするなら、規模は記録上最大だった「1859年の太陽嵐」の20倍だという計算が発表された。 太陽フレアにともなって放出される、太陽のコロナ質量放出（2012年4月）。 　西暦774年頃に、これまで知られていなかった（そして非常に急激な）炭素14の濃度増加が起こっていたとする研究成果が今夏に「Nature」誌に発表されたとき、そのニュースは多くの人を驚かせた。 　炭素の放射性同位体である炭素14は、地球外から到来するエネルギー粒子によって大気中の窒素が変化したものだ。炭素の大部分を占める炭素12と比べて、中性子が2個多い。 　問題の研究は、名古屋大学の研究チームが日本の屋久杉年輪中の放射性炭素濃度を測定した結果をもとに、2012年6月に発表したものだ。 　分析の結果、西暦774～775年に年輪中の炭素14濃度が異常に増加していることが判明し、研究チームは考えられる原因について推理した。そのひとつは太陽フレアだ。太陽フレアが放出する荷電粒子が地球の大気中に到達し、炭素14を生成する。 　もうひとつ考えられるのは近傍での超新星爆発で、こちらは大量のガンマ線を放出する。 　記録に残るそのような超新星爆発は、1006年と1054年に発生しているが、これらの時期に炭素14の増加は確認されていない。したがって、774年の急増が超新星爆発によるものだとすれば、その現象はこれらより何倍も大きかったか、ずっと近くで起こったはずだ。しかし、そのような出来事が見過ごされるはずはない。1006年の超新星爆発で出現した「客星」は、金星よりも明るく見えたと記録されているが、774年ごろにはそのような記録は見つかっていない。 　では、大規模な太陽フレアの可能性はどうか？ こちらも考えにくいと研究チームは却下している。チームの計算では、測定された炭素14の急増を起こすほどの太陽フレアは、これまでに観測された最大級の太陽フレアの少なくとも1,000倍に相当するはずで、それほどの現象があれば、異常なオーロラやオゾン層への破壊的な影響等があったはずだというのだ。 　この「謎」を解明するのに役立つ報告が、このほどなされた。カンザス大学とウォッシュバーン大学の研究者2人がNature誌にコメントを寄せ、太陽フレアの計算に基本的な誤りがあると指摘したのだ。 　それによると、測定された炭素14の急増を地球大気にもたらす上で必要なエネルギーを基に太陽フレアの大きさを推定する際、名古屋大学の研究チームは、太陽フレアが太陽の全方向に放出され、周囲に荷電粒子の大きな泡を形成するものとして計算してしまったという。実際には、太陽フレアは方向性を持ったジェットのような形を取る（NASAの動画でその様子を見ることができる）。 　カンザス大学等のチームの計算によると、このときの現象はそれでもなお、記録に残る最大の太陽フレアが観測された1859年の太陽嵐の約20倍の規模になる。ほかの恒星ではそうした現象が起きているので、太陽でも可能性はある。 　この大きさの規模の太陽フレアは生物の大量絶滅につながるようなものではない、とカンザス大学チームは述べている。「海洋における一次光合成が減少し、皮膚の紅斑や皮膚癌の発症リスクが高まったと推測されるが、先に可能性が指摘されていたような、生物の大量絶滅を引き起こすレベルではない」 　なお、774年にイギリスで日没後の空に「赤い十字架」が出現したという記録を、カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校の学生が発見しており、Nature誌は今年6月27日、学生のコメントを掲載している。 　774年に本当に巨大太陽フレアがあったのだとすれば、少々の健康上の問題はあったかもしれないが、破壊的な問題にはならなかっただろう。当時の人たちはデジタルインフラやグローバル通信ネットワークに依存していなかったからだ。 　※1859年の太陽嵐（日本語版記事）より規模の小さな「1921年の太陽嵐」のデータを現状の電力網に適用して計算したところ、電力網やそれに伴う社会システムの大規模な破壊が起こりうると予測されている（日本語版記事）。1859年の太陽嵐と同規模の太陽風が、今後10年間に発生する確率は12％という研究も報告されている（日本語版記事）。
