　野中広務元官房長官は、４日夜、関西空港で記者団に対し「私は今回のことを言うために中国に行ったのであって、撤回などしない」と述べました。
　そのうえで野中氏は、「その時代を生きた人間として、われわれは明らかにすることはしておかないと、この世に政治家として生きた生きがいもないし、４１年前の合意を聞いた人間として明らかにする責任があると感じて話をした」と述べました。
　そして記者団が「野中氏の思いを中国に利用されたという指摘もあるが」と質問したのに対し、野中氏は「利用されたくないし、中国の人も利用しようとは決して思っていない」と述べました。

野中元自民党幹事長は、超党派の訪中団の団長として２日から北京を訪れており、３日、人民大会堂で中国の党最高指導部の１人で党内の序列が５位の劉雲山政治局常務委員と会談しました。
会談後、記者会見した野中氏などによりますと、この中で野中氏は、沖縄県の尖閣諸島を巡って４１年前の日中国交正常化の際に当時の田中角栄総理大臣と中国の周恩来首相との間で領有権問題を棚上げすることで合意があった、と述べたということです。
これに対して、劉常務委員は、野中氏が長期にわたって日中関係の発展のために尽くした努力を評価し、中国としても日中関係の発展を重視していることを表明したということです。
野中氏の「棚上げ合意があった」とする発言は「尖閣諸島を巡る領土問題は存在しないため、棚上げの合意もない」とする日本政府の立場とは異なり、中国の主張と同じもので、中国国営のテレビや通信社は、相次いで野中氏の発言を伝えています。

野中氏は「田中元総理から当時の状況を明確に聞いた生き証人として明らかにしておきたかった」と述べており、野中氏の発言は、今後、波紋を広げることになりそうです。
